Your tooth contains a soft layer called pulp that holds many nerve endings and blood vessels. When the enamel protecting the tooth is damaged, bacteria can slip in and infect the pulp, leading to a constant toothache. To stop the pain and prevent the infection from spreading, Dr. Verner can perform a procedure called root canal therapy to remove the diseased pulp as well as the bacteria causing the problem. If you have dental pain that doesn’t go away after a couple of days, call the Dental House of Pittsburgh today.
Root canal therapy has a bit of an unearned reputation for being extremely painful. While it’s normal to experience discomfort after many dental procedures, modern root canal therapy won’t hurt any more than a simple routine filling. Dr. Verner will prepare your mouth to help you stay as comfortable as possible during the procedure, and he’ll give you advice for making sure the recovery process goes smoothly. Keep in mind that the pain you’ll experience after root canal therapy is usually comparatively mild and can easily be controlled with medication.
